This weekend, several teams from the Georgia Fusion Volleyball Club based in Newnan traveled to the Red Top Rally Tournament hosted at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA. The GF 12-1, 13-2, 14-1, 14-2, 15-1, and 16-2 teams competed in this tournament.
The 12-1 team went 3-0 (6-1 on sets) and earned their spot in the gold bracket where they won their first game 2-1 (22-25, 25-19, 17-15), but then dropped their second in the gold semis in a close 3-set match (26-24, 22-25, 12-15). They finished the day tied for 3rd overall out of 17 teams in the 12 Club division. The 13-2 team went 2-1 (4-2 on sets) in pool play, earning a spot in the gold bracket. They lost their gold bracket game 2-1 (25-23, 21-25, 12-15) to close out their day at 2-2 (5-4 on sets). Their performance earned them a tie for 7th overall finish out of 16 teams in the 13 Club division.
The 14-1 team went 3-0 (6-0 on sets) in pool play, which was enough to earn them the top seed and a first round bye heading to the gold bracket. They were victorious in their gold bracket semifinal match 2-0 (25-21, 25-20), but fell in the final in three sets 2-1 (25-23, 18-25, 6-15). This earned them a 2nd place finish out of 26 teams in the 14 Club division. The 14-2 team competed in the same division, but were in a different pool with only 2 opponents which they lost to both. They did not let their early losses affect their bracket play, going 4-0, not dropping a single set (6-0), and winning the Bronze Bracket! Their early losses, but late success constituted a 15th overall finish for them in the 14 Club division.
The 15-1 team was unbeatable in their early games, going 3-0 (6-0 on sets) in their pool games. This placed them in the gold bracket, where they fell 0-2 (18-25, 23-25) to end their day. They finished in 7th place overall out of 16 teams in the 15 Club division. The 16-2 team went 0-2 (0-6 on sets) in their 3-team pool, but then split their next two second round consolation games 1-1 (2-2 on sets) to finish 7th overall out of 11 teams in the 16 Club division.
A great day of volleyball and lots of fun hanging out with some of the greatest Coweta County has to offer! Looking forward to fall already and seeing some of these ladies transfer their athleticism from the club court to the school courts!
